Margery (“Peg”) Dorrance was a beautiful,captivating woman who, like her brotherJohn, married later in life. The picture at rightshows Peg and an unidentified companion inPiazza San Marco, Venice. An outstandinggolfer, Peg won the 1925 Texas Women’s GolfChampionship held at the Houston CountryClub. She was an accomplished equestrienne,an interest she shared with her husband,Cecil Wilfong, whom she married in theearly 1930s despite her parents’ disapproval.Within two years of the marriage, Wilfongfell from his pony during a polo match anddied. Margery was almost impoverished afterhis death and moved back to the Dorrancehome. In later years, she had a small chinashop in the first Houston Junior Leaguebuilding.
